CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (WSIL) -- Cape Girardeau County is adding new provisions to their mask mandate. On Tuesday, the Board of Trustees of the Cape Girardeau County Health Center voted to extend the order. They board said they will consider lifting the mask mandate if one of the following provisions is met.
A COVID-19 vaccine is designed and made available to the public.
A highly effective and affordable therapeutic treatment becomes available or the positivity rate drops below five percent for a two-week period.
"Believes everyone should have a choice: I do believe, it safe for everyone around, so I think it should be a mandated thing, but also, I think it's the people decision," said Meagan Quante.
The Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center reported 42 new cases of the virus and one death on Monday. The total number of cases in the county is 2,876 with 50 deaths.
