CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- The Carbondale Farmers Market opens this weekend, but it will look a little different.

This spring's market will be drive-through only, to help keep customers protected from the spread of COVID-19.

Organizers say customers will be required to remain in their cars, in a single-file line, to pass through the market.

Two staff members will assist customers - one to handle payment and one to handle produce.

President Kurt Sweitzer says they are trying to keep customers safe, while retaining the community feel of the farmers' market.

"You can stop and talk to the vendors, that's no problem, if it creates a backlog of customers, that's not such a bad thing. I mean, it shows you have a good business, so 鈥e're not just going out there half-hearted and just going for the money, we're going to try to keep everybody safe, and move the product."

The market will have many of its normal vendors return this weekend. It will be open from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday.
