CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- Due to uncertainty amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Carbondale has decided to cancel this year’s annual fireworks display on the Southern Illinois University campus.
The longtime Fourth of July tradition draws large crowds, which are not allowed under the Governor’s stay-at-home order or the Restore Illinois Plan.
The city felt canceling the event was in the best interest of the community's health.
