(WSIL) -- While you are social distancing at home, you might not realize you could harm your body from sitting on the couch all day.
Sitting down for hours can put you at risk for neck and back pain.
Spine specialist, Mathew Phillips, from Orthopaedic Center of Southern Illinois in Mount Vernon says for your neck:
Keep your computer screen at eye level, to prevent straining.
Limit your phone use, to keep your neck from moving down.
For your back:
Take breaks and move around.
And try to keep both feet on the ground.
"Sitting for long periods of time, it can put a strain on the muscles. And if you're in a position where you're leaning forward, looking down, it puts a strain on those muscles down through there and all the way through your back," he said.
Phillips also says staying hydrated and sticking with healthy foods are also good for your muscles.
