CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- Many Americans are keeping an eye on their bank accounts and mailboxes with the second round of stimulus payments on the way.
The Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Services said direct deposits will continue into next week and paper checks began being mailed out Wednesday, December 30, 2020.
News 3 spoke to a local man about how he plans to spend that extra $600.
Nashville, Illinois resident Niven Terfftzs said he has been fortunate enough to be able to work during the pandemic so when his second stimulus check hits his savings account; he will most likely save it to perhaps help pay his college tuition.
Terfftzs added that he is happy the IRS and Treasury Department are providing financial relief to the millions of people who need it.
When News 3 asked him what he thought about the discussion of bumping the payment to $2,000. He said he is uncertain about it and explains why.
"If we get it that's awesome, definitely don't bank on getting it, but it would be awesome if they do get it passed for everybody," said Terfftzs.
Experts in Washington D.C. have said over the last few days, the likelihood of the second round of stimulus checks being bumped up to $2,000 is highly unlikely, at least for now.
