McCracken County issues State of Emergency due to COVID-19 surge

MCCRACKEN COUNTY (WSIL) -- McCracken County leaders have issued a State of Emergency due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

According to an executive order, the rate of new COVID cases has grew more than 1,000 percent. The order says, "It is expected that, without renewing our efforts to combat the virus, the number of cases will continue to increase, as well as the number of cases causing serious illness and/or death."

Approximately 40 percent of McCracken County residents eligible for the vaccine are not vaccinated.

Due to the rising cases and percentage of those unvaccinated, the County is issuing the following:

  1. All members of the public and all state and county employees who are not fully vaccinated must be masked or wear facial coverings to enter and remain in McCracken County government office buildings, including the courthouse.
  2. Unvaccinated employees may remove their masks within their workstations when appropriate social distancing from others can be maintained or where a protective COVID barrier is installed.
  3. It is strongly encourage that all persons medically eligible to be vaccinated do so.
  4. It is suggested that all businesses encourage their employees and their customers to be vaccinated and if they will not, require masks and social distancing.
