CARTERVILLE, Ill. (WSIL) Residents of the Blairsville Water District are advised to boil their water until further notice following a water main break.

The boil order, which affects all district customers except Walker Bluff Casino, was issued as a precautionary measure while officials test the water supply for safety.

Officials are actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates as soon as testing confirms the water is safe for consumption.

The CDC recommends bringing water to a full rolling boil for one minute, or three minutes at elevations above 6,500 feet. Then allow the water to cool before using it.

When washing hands with tap water during a boil water order, it's recommended to use soap and water, then using alcohol-based hand sanitizer and let them air dry.

For information regarding the boil order customers can contact the Blairsville Water District office at (618) 987-2285.
