PADUCAH, Ky. (WSIL) -- Mayor George Bray introduced the authorization for the Entertainment Destination Center in downtown Tuesday night at their regular city commission meeting.

"This one is very interesting," Bray said.

Kathryn Byers, Paducah Business Development Specialist told the commission that feedback on the alcohol to go plan since it was announced was positive.

"We've got some questions about boundaries," Byers said. "The city staff was able to walk the boundaries."

Kentucky to Broadway on 4th Street was changed on the map to allow more walkability. Staff wanted more accessibility to the convention center.

The area would cover South 3rd Street around The Freight House Restaurant, pass the Carson Center, by the flood wall, to the Julian Carroll Convention Center. It would go up Broadway to 5th Street. The Lowertown residential area wouldn’t be part of the EDC.

The cups will now have a QR code that people can scan on their cell phone to identify the map of the designated area.

The proposed operating times were originally 6am to 3am the next day. After staff talked with the Paducah Police they changed the operating hours to 6am to midnight to coincide with park hours and closures.

"It makes perfect sense," Bray told Byers during the presentation. "I've got nothing but positive feedback myself."

If approved by the state about 20 businesses would be allowed to offer the booze for walking around venues for a annual fee.

The 2nd reading is expected to take place on April 27th.

The city hopes to get it in place with state approval before Memorial Day.
