(WSIL) -- Rides Mass Transit District will soon resume its "contactless" fare collection, along with a new way to pay.

The local transportation company is seeing a recovery in rides after a dip in services during the "stay at home" order.

They've also assisted in meal deliveries for residents who need extra help.

Operations Manager Jeffrey Drake says the new payment methods should help residents stay safe.

"So the person would board the bus, they'd be able to drop their fares in our fare boxes on the buses, avoiding the contact. Something else that's been a positive we think, will be we think, is a mobile ticketing app on our fixed route Saluki Express buses in Carbondale. So people will be able to download an app and even pay for their passes or fares with our Saluki Express service also starting July 1st," explained Operation Manager Jeffrey Drake.

Passengers with valid passes which would have originally expired in April or May will have their passes extended through Saturday, July 31.
