$1,000 reward offered for information on stolen equipment

CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- A local musician is offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who can provide information on the thefts of several musical instruments and pieces of equipment.

Carbondale resident Kate Hughes says she found her shed next to her home on the 600 block of Emerald Street unlocked over the weekend.

"[The police] said it didn't look like it was a break-in," Hughes said. "I know that I locked the door whenever I left for my trip."

Hughes returned from her trip to North Carolina three weeks ago. After returning, she started noticing unusual activity at her home while she was at work, using a security app, that she said had system issues.

"A lot of people have been saying that it's somebody I know. I hope it's not," Hughes said.

She says nearly three dozen musical instruments and pieces of equipment were stolen, and estimated them to be worth around $3,000. But Hughes says the stolen items were of sentimental value and not monetary.

"A lot of that stuff I've been collecting since I was in sixth grade," Hughes said. "You can't even get 50 cents for some of it. It's just sentimental."

As of Monday, none of the stolen items have been found. Hughes hopes she can reclaim some of her stolen property so she can give music lessons and play during her spare time.

"It's how I make my money it's how I have fun," Hughes said. Hughes' Facebook post with a list of stolen items can be found below.
