Carbondale shooting suspect caught by police

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- Carbondale police officers responded to gunshots heard early on the morning of April 18, the 400 block of East Hester Street. Officers said they identified two vehicles fleeing the scene, a Chevrolet Cruze and a Dodge Challenger.

During their investigation, police stopped both vehicles and reported finding Quearii Mathis-Jones in one of them. Police said Mathis-Jones had fired shots into the air during a disturbance and had a firearm in her possession.

Mathis-Jones also had an outstanding Jackson County arrest warrant for battery. Police arrested her for a reckless discharge of a firearm charge and the battery warrant.

No injuries were reported from the incident. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Carbondale Police Department at 618-549-2121.

The investigation is still ongoing.
