SIKESTON, MO (WSIL) -- A former Sikeston police officer charged in a fatal DUI crash pleaded not guilty Tuesday after waiving his right to an arraignment.
Andrew Cooper is now expected to wear GPS monitoring before his scheduled preliminary hearing August 26.
As a condition of his release Cooper was ordered to not drive, not have contact with the victims, no alcohol, and no entering bars or taverns.
Late Friday evening, May 22, the former lawman turned himself in to the New Madrid County Sheriff's Office, according to Scott County Sheriff Wes Drury. Drury, who said he's worked with Cooper in the field, declined to offer any comment on the case.
Cooper faces multiple driving while intoxicated charges, including death of another and a charge of armed criminal action.
According to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Cooper drove his vehicle through a stop sign and crashed head-on into another vehicle on February 29th. It happened at 9:15 p.m. on Salcedo Rd. and Columbine St. in Sikeston, Mo.
Abigail Cohen, 22, of Sikeston, Mo, died in the crash and Cooper and three others were hurt.
The other driver Christopher Cohen, 24, of Sikeston, MO, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Cooper in civil court in March.
Cooper resigned May 1 as an officer of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.
