Local business hit by vehicles: not once but twice

  • 0

MARION, Ill. (WSIL) -- A Marion business located at Route 13 and North Market Street was hit by a car, not once but twice, one week apart. The Designer and Buyer for Etcetera Flowers, Fine Gifts and Gourmet, Michael Johnson said never before had a vehicle come up Market Street at full speed, crossed all lanes of traffic on Highway 13 and ran into the store.

Johnson said that's what happened November 21, he said he got a call from the Marion Police Department around one in the morning. Johnson said the during that first incident, the vehicle crashed through a room which housed the store's fine silks, painted ceramics and cabinets filled with Waterford miniature crystals.

Johnson said that accident and the second crash which happened November 28 were caught on surveillance video.

"And they completely made it in to the very front great room and pulled in and backed up four different times and each time, and each time pushing stuff further and further, knocking more stuff down. They might as well have done a doughnut the middle of the store and then they backed up and left the seen of the accident," said Johnson.

Johnson said he isn't letting these crashes hold them back, he said his shop will remain open for business.

He also said it's still too early to determine the financial damage from the incidents.
