Marion Man Faces Several Gun Charges After Traffic Stop in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. � A Marion man was taken to jail and faces several gun charges after he was pulled over in Carbondale for suspended license plates.

Officers with the Carbondale Police Department pulled over a vehicle in the 600-block of East Grand Avenue at 11:42 p.m. on April 20. The vehicle was reported to have suspended license plates.

Police said the driver, identified as Bernard B. Cole, 40 of Marion, had a suspended driver’s license as well.

Cole was also accused of having possession of a stolen firearm and controlled substance.

Cole was charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Driving While License Suspended.

Cole was then taken to the Jackson County Jail.

The investigation is still ongoing.
