Marion “Shots Fired� incident leads to chase, arrest of 5 in Carterville

UPDATE: 5:45 p.m.

The Marion Police Department is releasing more details from Saturday’s incident.

Marion PD received a report of shots fired in the area of the 900 block of Sherman Drive around 1 p.m.

A description of the suspect’s vehicle was given and officers later tried to initiate a traffic stop.

The vehicle refused to stop and fled from officers. The vehicle was followed through Marion, into Carterville, to the area of Shawnee Trail Road, approximately one-half mile north of Illinois Route 13, where the suspect vehicle ran off the roadway and was involved in a single vehicle collision. 

Those in the vehicle then fled on foot into a wooded area.

Multiple agencies, canine units and air supportresponded to the area and setup a perimeter.  A search of the wooded area was conducted, resulting in all five suspects being located and taken into custody.

This is an ongoing investigation and further details will be provided via the Marion Police Department as they become available.

UPDATE: 3:35 p.m.

Carterville Police are now confirming that 5 suspects are in custody. At least two suspects were captured near Route 13, just west of Shawnee Trail.

The high school's lockdown has been lifted.

CARTERVILLE (WSIL) -- Carterville Police and other law enforcement are searching for two suspects near the High School.

Carterville Police say it started after an incident took place in Marion Saturday afternoon. Two suspects, in one vehicle, fled from Marion to Carterville and abandoned their vehicle near Carterville High School on foot.

The High School is currently on lockdown, due to a junior football game on the school's campus.

Police are currently searching on foot for the suspects.
