(WSIL) -- The Missouri State Highway Patrol released its 2021 Annual School Bus Inspections on Monday.
Officials say they inspected more than 12,000 buses across all of the state's school district. MSHP rated 822 buses as 'defective' and 264 buses were rated 'out of service.'
Matt Asher, superintendent of Bell City R-II Schools, says two of his six school buses suffered minor defections.
"In our case it was just the windshield and I think it had something to do with the emergency buzzer on the back door," Asher says.
Asher says the costs to make those fixes weren't expensive. Asher adds that the buses at his district have to deal with damage done during bus routes.
"Most of our kids live on gravel roads so there's a lot of expenses and damages that come up with just the roughness of the gravel road," Asher says.
