(CNN) -- The Justice Department is tackling police reform within its own organization.
Tuesday the DOJ released a memo announcing several reform measures for its federal law enforcement officers.
That includes prohibiting federal officers from using chokeholds and carotid restraints, unless deadly force is authorized. It also limits the use of no-knock entries.
The DOJ says it has re-examined the use of such techniques "in the wake of a number of recent tragedies."
Chokeholds and carotid restraints have been used in several controversial, deadly police encounters, including the 1029 death of Elijah McClain and 2020 death of George Floyd.
