METROPOLIS (WSIL) -- The Massac County Sheriff's Office is joining other law enforcers across the nation in a new initiative called "Books and Badges."
Each week, deputies read children's books online.
Sheriff Chad Kaylor says this is an opportunity to connect with the department's youngest citizens.
"When they see the police, it's because we're there for a criminal matter and they see us take somebody away. So we definitely don't want the kids to think we're the bad guys. So with this, it shows that police officers are human too," he said.
