SENATH, Mo. -- Eight people were injured after two separate crashes in the same county in southeast Missouri on Sunday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) stated they first responded to a crash along Route N, roughly two miles south of Senath at 4:25 p.m. on August 4.

MSHP said a 28-year-old was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Express going north when it pulled into the path of a 2021 GMC Yukon. The Yukon then ran off the road and hit a ditch while the Chevrolet Express overturned.

A 26-year-old and a 28-year old were in the Chevrolet Express when the crash happened, MSHP stated in a crash report. The 26-year-old was air-lifted to a hospital in Memphis with serious injuries while the 26-year-old had minor injuries.

Three people were in the Yukon at the time of the crash. Their ages were 8, 36 and 37 and injuries ranged from minor to moderate severity.

Both vehicles were taken away by a wrecker service.

Less than five hours later, another crash happened in Dunklin County, this time injuring three people.

Missouri State Highway Patrol stated the crash happened at 9:10 p.m. along Route NN, roughly three miles north of Gobbler.

MSHP said a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado was driving north when it crossed the center line and hit a 2010 Ford Edge head on.

Cornelius Van Der Westhuizen, 57 of Gobbler, was reportedly air-lifted to a hospital in Memphis with serious injuries. MSHP reported he was later arrested and faces two counts of Driving While Intoxicated - Serious Physical Injury and a charge of Fail to Drive in Right Half of the Roadway Resulting in a Crash.

A 43-year-old and 17-year-old in the Ford Edge were air-lifted to hospitals in Memphis also. Both were reported with serious injuries.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
