WSIL (Carterville) -- Grab that hot coffee and bundle up, it's a chilly and soggy start to the day. A few snow showers have been hanging over our northern counties early this morning. Now that temperatures are climbing slightly above freezing, we're beginning to see the mixing line set up across southern Illinois.Â
Highs this afternoon not much warmer than current temperatures with highs in the upper 30s. Rain chances will continue into this evening pushing south.
If you have any plans this evening to celebrate the New Year early, make sure you bundle up. Luckily you can likely keep the rain jacket at home as shower chances diminish by late evening.Â
This weekend is trending to be a lot nicer than the last couple of days. We'll see the return of sunshine along with slightly unseasonably warm temperatures.Â
Highs Saturday and Sunday will be in the mid to upper 40s.Â
We'll be ringing in the New Year on a chilly note with temperatures at midnight in the 20s. Next week should be a bit calmer than this past one.Â
