Film Screening & Discussion at SIU Honors Ida B. Wells and Richard Hunt

CARBONDALE, Ill (WSIL) � Join us for a powerful evening celebrating the legacy of Ida B. Wells and the artistry of Richard Hunt with a special film screening and discussion at Morris Library’s Guyon Auditorium on February 6, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.

The event will feature a screening of the documentary “The Light of Truth: Richard Hunt’s Monument to Ida B. Wells,� which chronicles the creation of Hunt’s striking monument in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood—a tribute to Wells, the pioneering African American journalist, educator, and civil rights leader.

Following the screening, the film’s creators, Rana Segal and Laurie Little, will engage in a discussion about the documentary’s journey, Hunt’s artistic vision, and the enduring impact of Wells� activism.

Complementing the event, a special exhibition of Richard Hunt’s selected lithographs and drawings will be on display at Morris Library throughout February, providing deeper insight into the celebrated sculptor’s body of work.

This will also help attendees gain a behind-the-scenes perspective on Hunt’s monument and its significance in Chicago’s historic Bronzeville neighborhood. They will get to experience Hunt’s artwork up close and reflect on the lasting impact of Ida B. Wellsâ€� fight for justice. This event is free and open to the public. Â
