MARION, Ill. (WSIL) --Â Black Diamond Harley-Davidson partnered with Deaconess Illinois, Shawnee Health and SIU Family Medicine for an event for the area on Saturday.
Black Diamond Harley-Davidson hosted the Free Breast Cancer Screening and Education event on October 19. This is the 4th year for this event.
Nikki Adams is the organizer of the event. She said, "We have all known someone with breast cancer, a family member, etc. Breast Cancer has touched everyone. We all know early detection is key. That is the importance of it and the more that we can get exposed, get their mammograms, get those early exams to catch those things early then the outcome is going to be better."
The event also had informational booths for visitors to learn more about breast cancer.
Ashley Whitecotton is a nurse practitioner with Shawnee Health. She shares what people should be aware of.
"Mammograms are routinely recommended at the age of 40 and yearly. After that, if you do have a family history of breast cancer in your family, then, sometimes it recommended at even earlier ages," Whitcotton added. "You just need to be aware of your body. If you come to setting like this, we can answer any questions that you may not know that are normal or abnormal for you."
If were unable to make this event and you would like to get a mammogram, you can contact Shawnee Health, Deaconess Illinois or SIU Family Medicine.
