Study says loneliness can take five years off a senior’s life

(WSIL) -- says adults older than 60 who say they feel lonely, die up to five years earlier than those who aren't.

With the pandemic still going, some older people may still deal with having to be isolated from others.

Centerstone Health Services tells News 3 having a plan or routine is key. They say for people living in senior facilities, their families can have a rotation to talk on the phone, Zoom calls or even in-person visits.

"Sometimes there's someone else in the house and we're still lonely because we don't share the same interests. Being able to share the same interest with people and things like that is important as well," says Centerstone Senior Services Clinician Laura Kunz.

If you're an older adult who lives alone, Centerstone says you can volunteer, stop by your local diner or join a local organization. They say that may help you feel less lonely.
