Home damaged after early morning fire in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, (WSIL) � Firefighters responded to a house fire early Sunday morning in Cape Girardeau.

The Cape Girardeau Fire Department stated they responded at 12:53 a.m. on February 9, to a home at 321 S. Spring Street.

Smoke and fire were showing as firefighters arrived at the scene. Crews quickly were able to get the fire extinguished, however, this did cause moderate damage to the home.

The estimated dollar amount for damage was around $70,000, fire crews stated.

Cape firefighters also said they believe the fire started in the kitchen and spread from there.

Nobody was home at the time of the response. Cape Girardeau Police Department and the Cape Girardeau Fire Department are investigating with the assistance from the State Fire Marshal.
