MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (WSIL) -- The 73rd Annual Apple Festival is officially underway.
There are rides, a line-up of live music, local food vendors and plenty of activities for the whole family.
Shawn Stearns is the President of Apple Festival. He says, "This year is monumental because we made so many changes all in one year. We have a brand new carnival here and we have not made any changes like this in over 35 years. We've done a lot this year and a lot of new changes. I think everyone is really going to enjoy it"
One of those new changes is a new addition to the festival. The addition is called the Appletime Village. It consists of a bakery, an ice house, emporium, and the Captain's Quarters.
We also talked with Sharon White of Murphysboro. She has been attending this Apple Festival for more than 50 years. "I walked with the coroner when the parade was going and fell in love with it," White said. "I volunteered with everything I could help out and I have been coming here ever since. Everyone that lives here should come especially the parade that's why the chairs are lined up up and down the street. It's really fun"
The Apple Festival will continue until Sunday, September 15, 2024.
