Mary's River Covered Bridge damage (7.1.23)

CHESTER, Ill. (WSIL) -- Most of the roof of a landmark in Chester blew off after severe storms rolled through the area Saturday.

Images shared by viewers showed the extensive damage done to Mary's River Covered Bridge

The bridge was built in 1854 and remained active for traffic until 1930. The state bought the bridge in 1936 to preserve it and make it a picnic area. It was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
