New Mount Vernon Assistant Police Chief Sworn In

MT. VERNON, Ill. -- A new assistant police chief for the Mt. Vernon Police Department was sworn in on Tuesday.

The Mt. Vernon Police Department announced Travis Chapman was sworn in as the new Assistant Chief of Police on Tuesday.

Chapman is a 17-year veteran with the police department in Mt. Vernon, a rescue swimmer veteran with the US Coast Guard and he served as a police officer in Las Vegas for two years.

Chapman has served as a patrolman, field training officer, corporal, sergeant, captain, internal affairs officer, firearms instructor, team leader with the ILEAS WMD Special Response Team, Team Commander for the Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff's Office High Risk Team and was an officer of the year.
