...Cold air funnels will be possible...

Cold air funnels are expected today. These cold air funnels are
developing underneath a few showers that are moving across the
area. Underneath these showers...spinning columns of air that look
like tornadoes may continue to develop. These funnels usually are
very brief and rarely touch the ground. If these funnels do touch
down...they most likely will not cause damage to life or
property.

Cold air funnels are due to very cool air aloft...warm moist air
near the ground...and are usually in association with a strong
area of low pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere. Due to
little or no wind shear...they are usually weak and very brief.

SIU Small Business Development Center names winners of 2023 Business Plan Competition to local entrepreneurs

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Showcase at Southern Illinois University Carbondale on Thursday November 30, 2023, presented in partnership with Regions Bank, concluded with , represented by Scott D. Hamilton-Brehm, winning the competition. The event, which took place at the Dunn-Richmond Economic Development Center, highlighted the entrepreneurial spirit within the university and surrounding community.

Thermaquatica's victory was a nod to its innovative approach in transforming low-value materials into environmentally friendly, high-value commodities. Dr. Hamilton-Brehm noted the importance of the work that his company is performing, “We have a real chance to reverse the effects of climate change and change the way we do things in the world.�

The Southern Illinois Business Plan Competition also recognized Harrison Sleep Lab and Illinois Ozarks Merchandising.  The occasion was structured to allow attendees to engage with innovators and explore new projects and included introductions of the 'Launch That Business' graduates, culminating in the announcement of the business plan competition winners.

We’re grateful to the entire SBDC and SIU team for their dedication in making tonight’s showcase possible, and of course to the contestants for their creativity and courage in pitching their big ideas.
