MAYFIELD, Ky. -- A local community continues its recovery, more than two years after a deadly tornado.

The First Christian Church community will receive $4,757,382 in FEMA Recovery Funding. The church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was destroyed by an EF4 tornado on December 10, 2021.

The church's original structure was demolished. The FEMA grant funding will cover ninety percent of the building's total replacement process.

FEMA's Public Assistance program provides grants to state, tribal, and local governments.

It isn't clear when construction will begin.
