CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (WSIL) -- Cape Girardeau Police are investigating a case involving a stolen vehicle which led to a high-speed pursuit on April 28.

An officer spotted the stolen vehicle near Highway 74 and South Sprigg around 9:45 a.m. Police said this vehicle was reported stolen by a neighboring agency.

The vehicle initially stopped during the traffic stop but then sped off on Linden Street, prompting a pursuit, police said. The officer ended the chase due to safety concerns for other motorists and losing sight of the car.

Officers later found the vehicle with a broken front axle in the 800 block of Hackberry. The occupants had fled and remain at large.

The investigation is ongoing. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Cape Girardeau Police Department.
