BENTON, Mo. (WSIL) -- One person is seriously injured after a two-vehicle crash in Scott County on Sunday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) said the crash happened at 7:41 p.m. on November 17, along I-55, roughly one mile north of Benton.

MSHP said a 33-year-old was driving a 2019 Nissan Sentra when it hit the rear of a 2000 Peterbilt truck, driven by a 52-year-old man. The truck then ran off the road, hit a tree and then overturned.

The man in the Nissan Sentra was reported with serious injuries and taken by ambulance to the St. Francis Medical Center.

Both vehicles had extensive damage, state police reported.
