WSIL (Carterville) -- If you're headed back to work today the temperatures may be a shock to the system. We're tracking more than a 20 degree difference for some compared to this time yesterday. Highs on Christmas climbed into the 60s compared to today, we'll hit the mid 40s.Â
Enjoy the sunshine today because we won't see much more later this week. A large low pressure that's currently over the northern Plains, will push through the region. As it does, it brings the chance for light rain, light snow and a wintry mix.Â

The best chance to see winter weather will come late Wednesday into Thursday morning, but the possibility does continue through Friday.Â
Overall this won't be a big snow event. Most of this will likely result in a dusting on elevated surfaces. It is dangerous enough though that you need to make sure to give yourself extra time as you're headed out the door. Rural roads and bridges can always hide ice so be careful.Â
Behind this system temperatures remain chilly with highs in the low 40s, upper 30s.
