MT. VERNON, Ill., (WSIL) -- Drivers in Mt. Vernon who frequently take 42nd Street will have to temporarily find a new route. Officials with the City say their Public Works Department will be doing road patching in that area, particularly along South 42nd Street.
The patchwork will take place November 19th and 20th, or Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.
Crews plan to close the roadway to regular traffic, while allowing local traffic access to businesses north and south of patching locations. The exact area is located between the two Kroger driveways on South 42nd Street.
Public Works will post detours, with signage directing traffic to Mateer Drive and 44th Street. Drivers in that area are encouraged to use extra caution and travel at a lower rate of speed.
Anyone with questions can contact the Mt. Vernon Public Works Department at (618)242-6853.
