70-Year-Old Dead After House Catches Fire in Southeast Missouri

WILLIAMSVILLE, Mo. -- One person is dead after a fire engulfs a home in Wayne County, Missouri.

Williamsville Fire Chief Bobby Hillis said fire crews responded to a call of a house fire on 2nd Street just after 6 a.m. on Saturday.

Once crews arrived to the scene, Hillis said the home was fully engulfed.

Fire crews battled the flames and extinguished the fire. Siding on a neighboring home was impacted from the heat as well.

Firefighters went inside the home and found a deceased man. Hillis said he was identified as Michael E. Russell, 70 of Williamsville.

A Missouri State Fire Marshal is investigating and an autopsy is scheduled for Russell.
