FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. -- A dog died as a result of alleged child abuse on Saturday in Franklin County.

Officials with the Franklin County government say they investigated the situation for a report of domestic violence. A female child and another family member were confirmed to be involved in the situation. Officials say the report suggested that the confrontation resulted in the death of the child's dog.

Officials also heard that the suspect had a knife during the incident.

Deputies arrived on Saturday to investigate. They spoke with Frederick M. Edwards, 36, of Mulkeytown. The deputies say this conversation revealed that after the situation with the child, Edwards took the dog inside of the house and hung it from the ceiling.

Officials took Edwards to the Franklin County Jail and charged him with:

  • Aggravated Cruelty to Animals
  • Aggravated Assault
