WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. -- Officials took a man to jail who they caught in the midst of a "suspicious" storage-facility visit.

Deputies with Williamson County Sheriff's Office came across a vehicle they described as suspicious on Monday, June 17 around 12:24 a.m. The car was spotted at a closed storage unit on West Main Street in Marion.

The deputies stopped by the car and spoke to the one inhabitant of the car. This man was later identified as William J. Marks.

Officials said Marks told them he was dropping off items at the unit, which Marks said belonged to him. However, the deputies say none of his keys matched the unit's lock. Officials also say they did not see any items on Marks' person that they believed worthy of the midnight drop off.

Furthermore, Deputies say Marks did not have a valid driver's license.

A search of the car was conducted. According to a press release from the sheriff's office, the deputies found an illegal controlled substance, materials for narcotics packaging and containers/baggies with a white crystal-like substance. The officers reportedly field tested the substance which yielded positive results for Methamphetamine.

According to the release, deputies issued Marks citations for:

  • Methamphetamine Possession
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • No Valid Driver's License
  • Driving while License Suspended

Deputies placed Marks in custody at the Williamson County Jail.
