JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. -- Southern Illinois residents will soon be able to help those in need while also helping their own wallet.Â
The Jackson County Ambulance Service has announced a blood drive scheduled for Friday, Aug. 30 from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. To get residents to show up, the group will provide gift cards to Amazon to every donor.Â
The blood drive announcement was accompanied by a series of facts from the American Red Cross supporting the need for blood donations. The facts pointed out that someone needs blood in the U.S. every two seconds and that one in seven patients who go to a hospital will need a blood transfusion.Â
Residents who decide to give blood should block about an hour for the process and come to the drive on a full stomach. Those who do not eat are at a greater risk of passing out during the donation.Â
The drive will occur at the Jackson County Ambulance Headquarters at 10169 Old Hwy 13 in Murphysboro.Â
