The Knights of Columbus in Murphysboro hosted their annual community Thanksgiving Meal.

MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (WSIL) --- The Knights of Columbus in Murphysboro hosted their annual community Thanksgiving Meal. Mike Hickey is the Grand Knight for the Murphysboro chapter and shared that the meal was free for anyone who wanted to go.

“All kinds of people from all walks. We have homeless people here. We have people from other churches, senior citizens, Hickey says. “We have, you know, just the general public.

People had the option to eat together or get it to go. Some people shared they had a lot to be thankful for this year. Angelo Fiorino was there with his wife, Janice.

“We're involved in this every year, Fiorino says. “We're thankful for the people that we serve and the way of getting together and being a community.

Fiorino shared they are more than just there for the food.

“We know a lot of people, Fiorino says. It gives him a chance to reminisce and be updated on people's lives.

Kailyn Moniger volunteered at the meal through the Key Club at Murphyboro’s High School. She shared that she is thankful for her family this year and is happy to share a meal with people.

"I just really love seeing people smile, Moniger shared.

Hickey shared that giving the meal is one of the ways the Knights of Columbus follow their mission.

“That's what it's all about, a service, Hickey says. “Show that we care and they're people that care about them. They're not out there alone.

Hickey shared that they are making 700 meals for the community.
