One arrested in Mt. Vernon shooting, other suspect still at large

MT. VERNON, Ill. -- Police have arrested one of two suspects in a shooting investigation that began on Tuesday. 

The Mt. Vernon Police Department received word from Crossroads hospital a victim had been checked in for non-life-threatening injuries as a result of a shooting. 

Officers quickly responded to the scene of the shooting in the 2000 block of Logan Street. Investigators say they spoke to witnesses and reviewed video from nearby businesses. Officers believe two suspects were responsible for the crime. 

Deputies found one of the two suspects at about 3:18 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18. Gabriel Ellinger, 18, of Mt. Vernon, was taken into custody without struggle at 17th and Broadway. The other suspect, an underage male, remains at large. 

Ellinger faces charges of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and Possession of a Controlled Substance. He remains innocent until proven guilty in court. 

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office aided in the investigation.
