ST. LOUIS (WSIL) -- The DEA St. Louis Division is collaborating with law enforcement agencies to host the 28th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 26. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering over 219 collection sites across Missouri, Kansas, and Southern Illinois.
The initiative aims to reduce prescription drug misuse by allowing people to safely dispose of expired or unused medications. Michael Davis, DEA St. Louis Division Special Agent in Charge, emphasized the importance of the event.
“National Prescription Drug Take Back Day provides communities with an opportunity to safely rid their homes of medications that are unused and expired, Davis said. “It also gives families a way to begin conversations on the consequences of prescription misuse. By opening dialogue now, you could make a significant impact on a life down the line.
Opioids like oxycodone, codeine, morphine and hydrocodone are among the most misused prescription medications, according to The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The DEA collected nearly 630,000 pounds of medications in October 2024, with over 19.2 million pounds collected since 2010.
For those unable to attend on April 26, there are nearly 17,000 locations nationwide offering year-round disposal options. Visit for more details and for take back disposal locations.
