AVA, IL (WSIL) -- A fire took out a family home under remodeling on Saturday night in Ava.聽
According to Josh Franklin, Assistant Fire Chief for the Ava Volunteer Fire Department, crews got the call about a fire on Kessel Road just before 9 p.m.
Upon arrival, the roof had already collapsed. The interior walls were still intact, but have since fallen. Franklin said the home was a total loss by the time crews got to the area.
Franklin spoke to the owners of the house, who he says have been in the process of remodeling the home. It is unclear if anyone had been living in the home during the remodel, but Franklin confirmed the last time someone was at the home was less than an hour before the fire department received the call. .

Assistant Chief Franklin also said the biggest challenge for crews with this fire was obtaining water, as the fire occurred in a rural spot of the county. The assistant chief also noted protecting two nearby barns was of utmost concern.聽
Nobody was injured in the fire and according to Franklin, the State Fire Marshal will visit the scene on Monday to investigate.聽
In addition to Campbell Hill Fire Department, Gorham, Willisville, Cutler as well as Jackson County Ambulance Service and the Jackson County Seriff's office all contributed mutual aid.
