CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A pedestrian died Saturday in Carbondale after a crash involving a vehicle.Â
The crash occurred around 4:00 a.m. Saturday morning in the 1300 block of East Main Street. Police responded to the site at 4:04 a.m.Â
Officials have concluded the 17-year-old, male pedestrian was hit on East Main Street outside of a crosswalk. Jackson County Ambulance Service took the victim to the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, where they were eventually declared deceased. Members of the teenager's family are aware of the death, but a name has not yet been released.Â
The individual who police believe drove the car that struck the pedestrian is still being questioned.Â
Illinois State Police were on the scene of the crash as well to aid with traffic. Police blocked two lanes on East Main Street for multiple hours to allow the investigation to continue uninterrupted.
So far, police have not issued any charges.
