Carbondale shooting incident

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Both suspects in an early-May shooting in Carbondale have now turned themselves over to police.

The Carbondale Police Department first responded to the shooting on May 9 around 6:07 p.m. in the 500 block of South Rawlings Street. Responders uncovered three people injured and later identified two suspects through investigation. Along with help from the Jackson County State's Attorney's Office, police issued arrest warrants for the two suspects.

The first suspect surrendered to police on Sunday.

Now, police reveal the final suspect arrived at the station just one day later, on Monday, May 20, at 5:00 p.m., to accept the arrest warrant and enter into custody. Police booked this suspect into a juvenile detention facility and are awaiting a trial by court.

As both of these suspects are children, the police department will not be releasing names.

Police say the investigation is still open. Anyone with information regarding the shooting should call the department at 618-457-3200.
