MT. VERNON, Ill. � A small earthquake hit Jefferson County on Thursday night, followed by a smaller one in southeast Missouri roughly 10 hours later.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a 2.3 quake hitting about seven kilometers northwest of Woodlawn at 10:05 p.m. on April 18.
The USGS also reported a 1.4 quake hitting roughly four kilometers west of Howardville in New Madrid County at 8:32 a.m. on April 19.
