
Williamson County, IL (WSIL) -- Williamson County State's Attorney Brandon Zanotti is officially stepping down.
Sources within Williamson County government tell News 3 he will leave office on Friday, July 22.
Zanotti faced controversy after a DUI in May 2022.
The Williamson County government official tells News 3's Brandon Merano that Zanotti was talking about his resignation long before that incident.
Zanotti will take a new role with local law firm Sam C Mitchell and Associates.
On Wednesday, the Williamson County Republican party announced Ted Hampson will take over the role.Â
Chairman Jeff Diederich said, "The Williamson County Republican Party Precinct Committee voted unanimously in support of Hampson."
The party will now formalize the process at its July 19 meeting, which will place Hampson on the ballot for the general election in November.Â
“Ted Hampson’s leadership as our next Williamson County State’s Attorney will serve as a complement to ensuring a strong deterrent of criminal activity while upholding everyone’s right to due process,� stated Chairman Diederich.
