HERRIN (WSIL) -- High School football teams have been working out over the summer but Herrin had to recently shut things down.
The Tigers football account tweeted out over the weekend Due to positive COVID-19 cases within the HHS football program, the football team will take a pause from summer contact days effective immediately.
Last week we were able to swing by practice and catch up with new Herrin Head Football Coach Taylor Perry.
Rod Sherrill Sherril stepped down as head coach but will coach the offensive line.
It's the 34 year old Perry's first head coaching job, he's excited about the opportunity and before the pause saw a buy in from his guys.
"The biggest thing I've noticed, biggest change I've noticed is the way we are practicing from last year to this year," Perry said. "The intensity level, the focus, they are a lot more focused on getting better as individuals, holding each other accountable, not being selfish, that sacrifice mentality."
