CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- The saluki baseball team is riding a 5 game win streak, knocking off Murray State and sweeping Missouri state. SIU's head coach Lance Rhodes believes the positive results have a lot to do with scheduling.
Rhodes says on the weeks where the team has a mid week game, the guys turn around and play well that weekend. Prior to this 5 game win streak SIU had lost 6 of their last 7. Rhodes says when you get in a rut offensively, not having games for a full week is tough. He also mentioned that the mid-week game allows his pitchers to get on the mound more frequently. Pitching was a strength this weekend as the Salukis held Missouri state scoreless for 19 consecutive innings to close the series.
Unfortunately, no mid-week game this week. Up next SIU is on the road at Evansville for a 4 game non conference series. The Salukis played the Aces earlier this season which counted in the MVC standings. Southern Illinois taking 3 of those 4 games. First pitch Friday at 6pm.
