SEMO Baseball defeats Morehead State 9-6 to win 2024 OVC Championship
MARION, IL (WSIL) - The OVC Baseball Tournament in Marion has been really exciting this year.
(#2) SEMO and (#3) Morehead State played in a winner-take-all game after a loss. On the line? The conference crown and a spot in the NCAA Tournament.Â
Let's take you right to the 9th inning. SEMO with two outs, and Payton Lawrence slams the door shut. He strikes out Nick good, and the Redhawks get the final out they need to win this year's conference championship.
"It means everything, I've never felt like this in my life before," said Lawrence. "I am numb. I don't even know what to say, I am overwhelmed."
The Redhawks did not make it easy on themselves today -- they won it the hard way. As they defeat Morehead state 9-6, the win is the Redhawks' third in four years and 6th conference tournament title overall.
The Redhawks will continue on to the Regionals.
