CARBONDALE, IL (WSIL) - It wasn't the best of times for local college football as all three area teams came up short.
In spite of a 41-13 blowout to BYU, the Southern Illinois Salukis remains at number 10 in the top 25 FCS poll.
It was an ugly start to the season for SIU.
The Dawgs had major trouble and had even more trouble stopping big plays down the field like this one.
BYU was 14 point favorites, they won by 28 and scored 24 points in the second half to pull away.
Now they will try earn their first win on Saturday in Tennessee at Austin Peay.
"Disappointed that we did not make that a four quarter game that we have done here in the past in playing up and playing an FBS opponent, but they played really well. They played a clean game. We never really got the momentum on our side at all for four quarters," head coach Nick Hill said.
"It was a great atmosphere though. Those are the type of games I live for, the type of games I want to be in and shout out to the BYU fans they did what they had to do, made it a hard environment to play in," Junior QB DJ Williams said.
We'll check back in with SIU on Wednesday. We'll hear from players ahead of that week 2 matchup against the Governors.
