Video from the Williamson County Sheriff's Office shows a woman was rescued by deputies after her vehicle she was in wouldn't slow down as it was heading towards a lake. The Williamson County Sheriff's Office said on December 2, at 2:02 a.m., deputies responded to a 911 call where a motorist couldn't stop her vehicle as it was heading towards a lake. The sheriff's office said the deputies caught up to the vehicle as it was going west on Old Route 13 near the intersection of Division Street, just south of Carterville. Authorities said the vehicle was going about 30 mph and the vehicle was not slowing down even though the brake lights were on. The sheriff's office then said a deputy was able to find the vehicle, then pulled in front of her vehicle and allowed her vehicle to gently hit the patrol vehicle's rear bumper. The deputy then applied his brake and slowed both vehicles down until they stopped; stopping roughly a quarter mile before the Crab Orchard Lake. “Had the Deputy not been on scene or delayed performing this maneuver the driver and vehicle would have likely gone into the water upon reaching the lake�, stated Sheriff Jeff Diederich. EMS was also called to the scene for the woman, out of an abundance of caution, as she stated to authorities she was pregnant. The sheriff's office said there was very minor damage to the woman's vehicle.
